An explosion damaged the Jabsa gas export pipeline in Hasakah’s countryside on Thursday, starting a fire and prompting emergency crews to isolate the affected section, the Syrian Petroleum Company said.

Company spokesperson Uday al-Sattouf said the blast struck the 16-inch line at 5:15 p.m. in al-Arabidi, about 60 kilometers from al-Shaddadi, according to SANA statements reported by Syria TV.

Crews closed valves at the Jabsa gas plant and the Deir ez-Zor station in al-Bughayliyah while firefighters and safety teams secured the area.

The company expected repairs to finish early the following week. It said alternative supplies would keep power stations operating and that household gas deliveries would be unaffected.

The account did not identify who caused the explosion. The same pipeline had resumed service on Oct. 2 after repairs following a separate incident in September.
