The Netherlands plans to contribute €15 million to a new World Bank fund supporting Syria’s recovery and reconstruction before the end of 2026, Syria TV reported on Thursday.

The Dutch foreign ministry said the funding would prioritize basic infrastructure, public services and economic activity, including agriculture. It said Norway had pledged a similar contribution.

The announcement followed an Oct. 14 meeting on the sidelines of the World Bank’s annual meetings, attended by Syria’s finance minister and representatives of European and Gulf countries to discuss launching the fund and coordinating support.

The €15 million will come from an additional €25 million the Dutch government allocated for Syria’s stability and reconstruction this year, the ministry said.

Dutch officials said the wider aim is to improve living conditions and economic opportunities, helping create circumstances in which Syrian refugees can choose to return safely.
