Syria’s parliamentary budget committee has reviewed three consecutive years of state budgets, examining approval procedures for 2026 while preparing to discuss next year’s spending plan, Syria TV reported on Thursday, October 15.

The People’s Assembly said its Budget and Accounts Committee met under chairman Amin al-Bashir, with Finance Ministry representative Rania Taghlabi attending. Discussions covered the circumstances surrounding the 2025 budget and the legal steps needed for parliament to approve the 2026 budget.

The statement did not explain the legal difficulties affecting this year’s budget or give a date for its approval.

Taghlabi outlined the ministry’s one-twelfth budgeting system and the technical and administrative obstacles to completing the state’s final accounts.

The committee also examined preparations for the 2027 budget and financial and procedural requirements for drafting it. The discussions brought together questions about earlier spending and the next budget cycle, with further coordination required between the ministry and parliament’s specialist committee.
