A three-day crafts bazaar opened on Damascus’s historic Salhiyah Street on Sunday, displaying work by students at the Salhiyah Institute of Popular Culture, state news agency SANA reported.
The Creative Hands event, organized by the Damascus Directorate of Culture, runs through Tuesday. Displays include paintings of Old Damascus, Arabic calligraphy, crochet, candles and clothing and bags made from reused fabric.
Organizers said the bazaar aims to help trainees present their work and develop small income-generating projects.
Institute director Samah Azzo said its courses cover arts and crafts as well as computing and languages. The institute, established in 1960, holds three training sessions a year.
