Syria's Education Ministry has doubled the number of students accepted into the advanced technology track in Damascus to 200, state news agency SANA reported Friday.

Students on the updated admission lists should complete registration at the Damascus advanced technology school from Nov. 1 to Nov. 5, the ministry said. Classes are due to begin on Nov. 8.

The original admission round allocated 100 places each to schools in Damascus, Aleppo and Homs. Selection was based on a national standardized examination and basic education certificate results.

The national advanced technology track was established by an Oct. 7 presidential decree under the supervision of the education and higher education ministries. The expanded Damascus intake is intended to widen access to technological and digital education.
