Douma National Hospital held a blood donation campaign Friday to help replenish blood-bank supplies and meet hospital and patient needs, state news agency SANA reported.
The Rural Damascus Health Directorate organized the drive with local authorities and community representatives in Eastern Ghouta.
Health director Tawfiq Hassaba said the campaign formed part of efforts to strengthen blood reserves for emergency cases, surgery and people with chronic conditions, including thalassemia.
He said turnout was strong enough for staff to begin accepting donors before the scheduled opening. The one-day campaign would continue until the last donor was received, he added.
The Syrian Arab Red Crescent, Civil Defense, health and charitable associations and local community groups helped organize the event. No total number of donations was announced.
