Firefighters extinguished a fire on the roof of a terminal under construction at Damascus International Airport on Friday, with no injuries or disruption to flights, the civil aviation authority said.
The fire broke out at about 3:30 p.m. in Terminal Two, the authority said in a statement reported by SANA. Airport fire and ambulance crews responded and prevented it from spreading to other parts of the site.
Preliminary findings pointed to an accidental technical problem during roof-insulation work. The authority said an investigation was underway to establish the cause and assess the damage.
Aviation authority head Omar al-Hosari visited the site. Damage was limited to property, and airport operations continued normally, the statement said.
