Lebanon has completed rehabilitation of the gas pipeline between Tripoli and the Syrian border, Energy Minister Joseph Saddi said in an interview published Monday by Asharq Business.

Saddi said the Lebanese state helped finance the work and a Qatari grant covered a substantial share. Import contracts were ready to be presented to the cabinet, he said.

The project is intended to bring natural gas through Syria to Lebanese power plants. The interview reported that supplies had not yet started.

Saddi also described preliminary talks on linking Lebanon to an Iraqi oil pipeline project through Syria. He said studies were still needed before a timetable or final implementation decision could be set.
