Syrian filmmaker Saer Mussa plans to return to Damascus after 14 years abroad for a free screening of his feature film Shrine of Silence on Nov. 16, SANA reported Monday.

The screening will be held at the Damascus Opera House under the patronage of the Artists Syndicate, in coordination with the Culture Ministry. Tickets are available from the venue's box office.

Mussa said in a written statement to SANA that presenting the film to an audience in his homeland marked an important moment in his career. He left Damascus in late 2012.

The film follows Layla, a woman who loses her ability to speak after her brother is imprisoned. Mussa shot it in Tunisia, recreating a Syrian village for the production.

A graduate of Poland's National Film School in Lodz, Mussa has worked on documentaries, feature films and television dramas.
