Syrian Finance Minister Mohammed Yisr Barnieh discussed infrastructure financing and private investment with an International Finance Corporation delegation in Damascus on Tuesday, the Finance Ministry said.

The talks with IFC official Imad Fakhoury covered financial-sector reform and ways to prepare commercially viable projects for public-private partnerships, according to a ministry statement reported by SANA.

The ministry outlined work toward a dedicated public-private partnership unit. The two sides also examined financing needs under the Syria Connectivity Initiative, which seeks better infrastructure and trade links with neighboring countries.

Other proposals included a startup fund, broader financing for small and medium-sized businesses and reform of state-owned financial institutions. The report did not announce a financing commitment.
