Syria's central bank governor held talks in Paris on restoring correspondent banking relationships, expanding international payment channels and facilitating trade finance, the bank said Saturday.
Safwat Raslan joined a roundtable hosted by Bank Al Khaliji France with representatives of Banque de France, First Abu Dhabi Bank and Fransabank, state news agency SANA reported.
He also met representatives of the French-Syrian Business Council, investment bank Natixis and French financial intelligence unit Tracfin. Discussions covered financial governance, transaction transparency and rebuilding confidence in Syrian banks.
The meetings accompanied Syria's return to a Financial Action Task Force plenary after more than 15 years. The report did not announce the opening of a new correspondent account or give a timetable for restoring banking links.
