Syria's standards body took part for the first time in the general assembly of the Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries, the Industry Ministry said, according to SANA.

The 21st assembly concluded Wednesday in Kazan, Russia. In a statement Thursday, the ministry said participation was intended to strengthen cooperation on measurement, quality systems and product conformity.

It said Syrian officials hoped to exchange expertise and use the institute's programs, including work on halal standards, to improve access to regional and international markets.

The report described cooperation goals, not automatic certification of Syrian products or newly granted market access.
