Syria is preparing for a mutual evaluation of its anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing framework scheduled to begin in mid-2027, a senior official said.
Shafiq al-Dali, director of international cooperation at Syria’s Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Commission, told Al-Ikhbariya television Saturday that the country was implementing Financial Action Task Force recommendations, state news agency SANA reported.
The evaluation could open the way to a review of Syria’s grey-list status, he said. It does not amount to a decision to remove Syria from the list.
Al-Dali said regional assessors had recognized progress in Syria’s financial oversight. He linked stronger governance and transparency to rebuilding confidence in the financial system.
The remarks followed Syria’s participation in a FATF plenary in Paris Friday, its first in more than 15 years.
