Syria's Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Authority took part in a Financial Action Task Force plenary meeting in Paris after an absence of more than 15 years, state news agency SANA reported Saturday.

Authority chairman Safwat Raslan presented plans to develop Syria's framework for combating illicit finance, according to a statement the authority issued Friday.

He outlined institutional, legislative and technical changes intended to meet international standards and prepare for a mutual evaluation process.

The meeting brought together representatives of more than 200 jurisdictions and international organizations to discuss threats to financial integrity, including risks associated with virtual assets and scam centers.

The report described Syria's participation and reform plans, not a change in its FATF monitoring status.
