Syrian finance and health officials have asked UNICEF to increase funding for Syria and help mobilize donor support for healthcare and children’s services, SANA reported Tuesday, citing the Finance Ministry.
Finance Minister Mohammed Yisr Barnieh and Health Minister Musab al-Ali met UNICEF Representative Meritxell Relaño Arana and an agency delegation to discuss spending priorities and coordination.
Barnieh urged closer alignment of UNICEF assistance, donor contributions and government resources with urgent service needs. Al-Ali emphasized continued support for child healthcare and nutrition programs.
The discussions also covered UNICEF’s proposed 2027 work in health, nutrition, water, education and child protection, alongside technical assistance for ministries.
No new funding amount or signed financing agreement was announced in the report.
