A musical theater production staged at the Arab Cultural Center in Tartous examines displacement, loss and attachment to home through six characters whose lives meet in a café, SANA reported Tuesday.
The Dervishes’ Café follows events from 2011 to 2022, combining drama, music and songs to tell the stories of people who leave the country and those who remain.
Ali Abdul Hamid adapted and directed the play from a book by Musab al-Sheikh Ali and Bana Khaddour. The production brings together theater and cultural organizations in Tartous and the Sawt Theater Troupe, affiliated with the Syrian Engineers Syndicate.
Zahra Qassab, who plays café owner Pascal, said the role marked her return to the stage after nearly 12 years.
Abdul Hamid said limited financial and logistical support remained a challenge for theatrical productions.
