Local authorities and volunteers launched tree-planting and clean-up campaigns in Aleppo and Homs on Sunday for National Environment Day, state news agency SANA reported on Monday.
Aleppo’s citywide planting campaign is scheduled to continue until April 1, 2027. Parks Director Abdul Razzaq al-Hajji said it aims to replace trees lost through felling and firewood collection.
In Azaz, officials set a target of more than 2,000 trees, with about 500 saplings planned for the first phase. A separate initiative in al-Bab includes restoring six parks and planting trees with Civil Defense teams.
Homs opened an environmentally focused products market, planted the Culture Directorate’s garden and honored sanitation workers. Its environmental program is due to run for a week, officials said.
