Residents and business owners around Damascus face sharply different electricity rationing schedules, with some reporting outages lasting nine or ten hours, Syria TV reported Friday.

Its interviews described shorter cuts in parts of the capital and longer interruptions in suburbs including Jdeidet Artouz and Sahnaya. Shopkeepers said generator subscriptions and other backup supplies were raising operating costs.

The Syrian Electricity Company attributed reduced generation to maintenance, units remaining offline at Tishreen power station and shortages of Azerbaijani gas supplies, according to a statement cited in the report.

The company said repair teams were working to restore units. The reported outage lengths vary by location and are not a single nationwide schedule.
