About 2.4 million people in priority areas of Syria need winter assistance, while the UN refugee agency hopes to support roughly 230,000, UNHCR said Friday as it launched a wider winter funding appeal.

The planned reach in Syria is less than half of last winter's, according to a statement published by UK for UNHCR, the agency's national charity partner.

UNHCR warned that returning families face shortages of shelter, clothing and heating fuel as costs rise and humanitarian funding declines.

Across Syria, Ukraine, Lebanon and Afghanistan, the agency estimates that at least nine million people need additional winter support. It aims to raise at least $50 million from individuals and the private sector for the 2026–27 response.

The appeal includes thermal blankets for Syria and Lebanon, alongside other assistance adapted to each country.
