Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shibani held a phone call with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Wednesday to discuss bilateral relations and regional developments, as Damascus and Washington continue efforts to expand cooperation. According to the Syrian Foreign Ministry, the two officials discussed ways to further develop relations between Syria and the United States and strengthen cooperation amid what Damascus described as positive momentum in bilateral ties. Al-Shibani expressed Syria’s appreciation for recent US steps related to lifting sanctions imposed on the country and stressed the importance of continued coordination to complete the technical and executive measures needed to implement the changes. The Syrian foreign minister said effective implementation of the measures would help their impact reach Syria’s economic and banking sectors, which have faced years of restrictions and limited access to international financial markets. The two officials also discussed efforts to support Syria’s economic recovery and create conditions for greater stability and investment. Regional developments were also on the agenda, with both sides stressing the importance of continued coordination and supporting efforts aimed at maintaining Syria’s stability.
