More than 33,400 homes in Daraa province were completely destroyed and more than 60,000 damaged during military campaigns by the deposed regime, according to a Ministry of Local Administration and Environment and UN-Habitat assessment cited by SANA.
The report also described damage to more than 55 bakeries and other essential facilities. Its overall estimate covered more than 95,000 homes and residential units.
Essam al-Zoubi, head of Daraa City Council’s technical department, said rubble clearance was continuing, particularly in Daraa al-Balad and the commercial market, but the municipality lacked adequate machinery and resources.
He said committees must verify ownership and identify rights holders before work proceeds on some properties. Unsafe buildings also require assessment and legal notices before demolition, to protect owners and tenants.
The wider provincial assessments are intended to guide reconstruction priorities and international support.
