Syria’s General Establishment for Social Insurance registered 137,465 workers and 16,825 new establishments between December 2024 and September 2026, its director Hassan Khatib told SANA.
Khatib said the agency carried out 10,307 workplace inspections over the same period as part of efforts to widen insurance coverage and enforce employers’ obligations.
He said proposed changes to the Social Insurance Law would seek to reduce contribution evasion, clarify the legislation and balance the interests of the institution, pensioners and employers. The proposals would also aim to bring national rules into closer alignment with international agreements Syria has ratified.
The institution administers benefits for public- and private-sector workers, including retirement, disability and workplace-injury coverage. The report did not announce that the proposed legal amendments had been adopted.
