Syria’s Higher Education Ministry has outlined how students and graduates will be handled as northern university institutions enter the national system, following the cooperation memorandum with Türkiye.
Deputy Minister Abdul Hamid al-Khaled told SANA that Gaziantep University graduates’ certificates would be authenticated after checks of their qualifications and academic records, allowing entry to the labour market without the separate process for recognising non-Syrian degrees.
He said committees would review curricula, student numbers and years of study and prepare transitional arrangements for students and Syrian teaching and administrative staff. A ministerial committee for al-Rai University and a University of Aleppo committee for Gaziantep’s branches would be formed after the Higher Education Council’s forthcoming decision.
Syrian universities have already taken over management of transferred branches and appointed deans, he said. Plans for a joint Syrian-Turkish university remained under discussion.
