Syrian Deputy Higher Education Minister Abdul Majeed al-Khaled held talks in Berlin on Tuesday on expanding university partnerships and scientific research with Germany, SANA reported.

Al-Khaled met representatives of Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and members of the Bundestag in separate meetings.

The discussions covered partnerships between universities, exchanges of research expertise and cooperation on training and institutional capacity. Syria’s chargé d’affaires in Berlin, Mohammad Baraa Shukri, attended.

SANA reported agreement on the importance of closer academic ties but did not announce a new scholarship program or signed partnership.
