Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa and Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi discussed restoring the Kirkuk–Baniyas oil pipeline and expanding regional trade routes during talks in Damascus on Wednesday, October 28, SANA reported.

The leaders considered preparations for a joint economic conference covering energy, transport, agriculture and trade. Pipeline rehabilitation would provide an additional route for Iraqi oil exports through Syria’s Mediterranean ports.

Their discussions also covered trade connections with Türkiye, Saudi Arabia and Iraq’s Grand Faw Port.

On security, the two sides discussed information-sharing, border coordination and arrangements for a senior Iraqi security delegation to visit Syria. SANA described talks and proposed cooperation; it did not announce a completed pipeline agreement or a construction timetable.
