Syrian and Iraqi officials discussed exchanging water data and restoring joint river-monitoring stations during talks in Damascus on Sunday, Syria’s state news agency SANA reported.
Energy Minister Mohammed al-Bashir met an Iraqi Water Resources Ministry delegation led by Technical Deputy Minister Hussein Abdul Amir Bakka. A separate session with Syrian Deputy Energy Minister Osama Abu Zayd reviewed Euphrates water levels and recent changes in flows.
The discussions covered real-time hydrological data, shared measuring stations and monitoring mechanisms. The officials also called for resuming the Syria-Iraq-Türkiye technical committee on water resources, according to the Syrian ministry.
SANA said the talks followed a technical agreement signed in Baghdad on June 25. It did not report a new water-allocation agreement or announce that the tripartite committee had reconvened.
