Syria has begun consultations on a national action plan for the UN's women, peace and security agenda, a Foreign Ministry official told the Security Council, according to SANA.
Nahla Othman, who heads expatriate and refugee affairs at the ministry, said the process should reflect the experiences of Syrian women affected by displacement and exile.
In remarks reported Thursday, she called for greater participation in decision-making and said more work was needed to expand leadership opportunities.
The plan concerns Security Council Resolution 1325, which promotes women's participation in peace processes and their protection during conflict. Consultations are underway; a completed national plan was not announced.
