Syria's Sports and Youth Ministry appointed a founding committee for a national padel federation on Monday, state news agency SANA reported.

The decision names Fouad Issa as committee chair and federation president, with Omar al-Darbas as secretary-general.

The committee will establish the federation's administrative and organizational framework and oversee the sport's development in Syria, according to the ministry's announcement.

The federation will come under the ministry's ball-games directorate. Its founding committee is to meet to draw up internal rules.

Padel is a racket sport played on an enclosed court smaller than a tennis court. The announcement did not set a date for a national tournament.
