Syrian Civil Defense teams extinguished two forest fires in the coastal province of Tartous on Friday, one in the Qadmous countryside and another in the village of Hayr Barfa in the Dreikish area.
The Civil Defense said its teams, working alongside forestry crews from the Agriculture Directorate and local residents, brought under control a fire that broke out in the Qadmous countryside on Thursday.
Firefighting operations continued for more than eight hours before the blaze was extinguished.
Teams are carrying out extensive cooling operations at the site and continue to monitor the affected area to prevent the fire from reigniting.
Separately, Tartous province's Directorate of Emergency and Disaster Management said its teams responded to another forest fire that broke out on Thursday in the village of Hayr Barfa in the Dreikish area.
Civil Defense and forestry firefighting teams worked together to contain and extinguish the blaze before cooling the site and checking for any remaining hotspots that could cause the fire to reignite.
The Syrian Civil Defense reiterated warnings to residents against lighting fires in forested areas and agricultural fields and urged people not to discard cigarette butts or glass containers along roads, particularly near forests and farmland.
It also advised residents not to burn dry grass around homes or along roadsides and to remove it using safer methods.
