Syrian Information Minister Khaled Zaarour said Wednesday that the government is working to restructure the media sector and develop a legislative framework suited to the country’s transition.
Speaking at the Arab information ministers’ meeting in Cairo, he said the aim was a professional and free media environment that supports civil peace, SANA reported.
Zaarour emphasized verification, clarity and public trust as responsibilities that extend beyond reporting events. His remarks described policy objectives rather than a newly enacted media law.
At the meeting, Syria handed the council’s rotating presidency to Somalia. Syria had chaired the previous session, according to the report.
